Welcome to our website – a prelude to visiting us in person! Julien’s is an authentic French bakery and pastry shop with two locations - 43 Queen Street in Chester, Nova Scotia, and 5517 Young Street in Halifax, Nova Scotia’s chic Hydrostone Market.

Didier Julien came to Halifax for a 6-month contract in 1984 and is still here–he loves Nova Scotia! As a Master Baker of Artisan breads and pastries, he is a traditional perfectionist, always striving for consistently high quality. Demanding the same standards from himself and his employees, he epitomizes the proverb about “doing a job right or not at all”.

Laura Mulrooney, the other half of Julien’s, takes care of the customers and their changing needs. She prides herself on remembering individual preferences, and making each person feel at home, usually on a first-name basis.

Offering fresh butter croissants, French pastries and a wide selection of delicious European breads, the temptations at both locations are truly irresistible.

These wonderful fresh-from-the-oven delights are baked in the wee hours every morning in our Chester bakery and delivered daily to Julien's in Halifax's Hydrostone Market as well as being available in our large village bakery and deli in Chester.

We also can be found every Saturday morning at the Halifax Farmer's Market in the Brewery, with a wide variety of fresh bread for sale.

Our store hours are conveniently geared for your daily needs, and for Holidays. These are especially busy times at any bakery, and Didier Julien makes them extra special by hand-producing delicious Belgian Chocolates which can take the form of Easter eggs, bunnies and fish, as well as other Holiday themes.

All Julien's bakeries/cafés are closed on Mondays except in peak season.
